Offer Trial for Subscription Products: How It Works

What is the Offer Trial Feature?

The Offer Trial feature lets merchants offer a trial period for subscription products, during which customers can receive a special discount. After the trial period ends, a different discount can be applied, or the product can be offered at its full price. This flexibility allows merchants to design compelling offers that can convert trial users into loyal, paying subscribers.

Key Benefits of the Offer Trial Feature:

• Discount Flexibility: You can offer one discount during the trial period and a different discount after it ends.
• Customizable Trial Period: Merchants can set the duration of the trial period to fit their needs.
• Subscriptions: Combine trial offers with recurring subscription billing to keep customers engaged.

Example Setup:

Here’s an example of how you might configure the Offer Trial feature:

• Pay-as-you-go: Delivery every 1 month
• Trial Duration: 3 days
• Discount During Trial: 100% (Free Trial)
• Discount After Trial Ends: 0% (Full Price)

How It Works:

Let’s say a customer places a subscription order on January 1st with a 3-day trial period and a 100% discount during the trial:

1. The next billing date will be skipped to January 3rd (after the trial ends).
2. After the trial period, the product will be charged at full price (0% discount).
3. From then on, recurring orders will continue to be placed on the 3rd of each month, creating a smooth subscription experience.

Limitations to Keep in Mind:

• Incompatibility with “On Specific Day of the Month”: The Offer Trial feature does not currently work with the “On Specific Day of the Month” option in the “Set order date on specific day” feature. If you need subscriptions to always start on a specific day of the month, the Offer Trial feature cannot be used.
• Offer Trial and Discount Conflicts: If a customer selects to Apply Discount on their subscription, they won’t be able to use the Offer Trial feature. This means that merchants can either offer a regular discount OR a trial offer, but not both at the same time.

Setting Up Offer Trial for Your Subscription Products:

To set up the Offer Trial feature, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Subscriptions Plan in your Utterbond app, Please refer to above screenshot.
2. Fill in the basic subscription details.
3. Add the subscription frequency.
4. Click on the offer trial Configure the trial period duration and set the discount for the trial.
5. Set the discount rate for after the trial ends.
6. Save your settings, and the Offer Trial will be active for that subscription product!
7. Assign products to that subscription plan and save it.
